Follydock was held in conjunction with the 2006 Rotterdam architecture biennale. The project brief called for a ‘design for a construction which is both expressive and which can interact with its surroundings to provide a spatial experience for its visitors’. The design, intended to float along a canal, is linked like a chain with the intention of a dynamic spatial relationship with the water. Each ‘lilypad’ contains seating as well as a luminous bulb which also anchors the system to the bed of the canal.
